It’s not daily you get the possibility to steal a significant league base. For six-year-old Oliver Richard, it was a possibility he couldn’t cross up.

The Houston Astros “legend” – a title given to Richard by his favourite workforce – went viral for his theatrics throughout a break in between innings of Tuesday evening’s sport at Minute Maid Park. 

Whereas taking part in a steal the bottom problem, by which a younger fan sprints to a dummy base and runs it again, Richard set his eyes on the true prize and rushed towards second base. After making an attempt to wrangle the bottom out of the filth for 20 seconds – even turning to Astros second baseman Jose Altuve and shortstop Mauricio Dubón for assist – Richard was redirected to the end line in proper area. As soon as there, the younger boy was greeted by the roar of the gang and several other excessive fives from fellow Houston followers.

“They by no means instructed me it was a pretend base,” Richard instructed The Athletic the day after his heroics. “So I believed they meant to go onto the precise area, steal a base and run again.”

Richard’s fast pondering and profitable mentality are traits he brings to the baseball area as a participant himself. The teenager showcases his pace and slugging energy without any consideration fielder and heart fielder for his native little league workforce in Mont Belvieu, Texas. Austin Richard, Oliver’s father, watched with pure pleasure from the right-field nook as his son captured the hearts of thousands and thousands.

“I’m telling everyone within the stands, ‘My son’s about to steal a base!’” Austin stated. “Then he takes off down the sphere, and everybody’s like, ‘Hey! Hey! Hey! He’s going the mistaken means!’ I’m like, ‘It doesn’t even matter. Simply let him run.’”

Describing his mad sprint to second base, Richard stated, “It’s like me seeing my finest pal, and I actually need to see him dangerous, and I am going sprinting over to him and provides him a giant hug.” 

Richard’s father couldn’t be happier. 

“It was most likely my proudest second as a father,” Austin stated. 

Though Richard wasn’t capable of take away the true second base, he was rewarded with a dummy base for his efforts. He has no intent of shedding this piece of memorabilia, which he obtained signed by Dubón following the sport. 

“Certainly,” he stated, “I began operating with it somewhat bit.”
