An East Village man arrested for a collection of shoplifting strikes at a Greenwich Village Duane Reade died in police custody, the NYPD stated.

Travis Durkin, 47, was accused of stealing $455 price of merchandise from the pharmacy on West Fourth Avenue close to Broadway on Jan. 15 and $1,238 in items on Jan. 16, police stated.

When Durkin returned to the identical Duane Reade on Jan. 18, he allegedly tried to steal $40 price of merchandise, however this time cops took him into custody, the NYPD stated.

He was charged with two counts of felony possession of stolen property, two counts of grand larceny and one rely of petit larceny for the three incidents, police stated.

After his Jan. 18 arrest, Durkin was discovered unconscious in a holding cell, and was taken to Manhattan Central Reserving the place he was awaiting arraignment, the NYPD stated.

He was pronounced useless Thursday, police introduced on Friday.

“He died weeks later after being admitted to the hospital,” an NYPD spokeswoman confirmed Saturday.

The incident is underneath investigation by the NYPD’s Drive Investigation Division.
