VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – Pope Francis on Sunday stated he was “frightened and pained” by the imprisonment of Nicaraguan Bishop Rolando Alvarez, who was sentenced to greater than 26 years in jail within the Latin American nation.
The Pope’s feedback about Alvarez, who’s a vocal critic of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, had been made in his weekly blessing to pilgrims and vacationers in St. Peter’s Sq..
