This Jan. 10, 2013, composite picture of the enormous barred spiral galaxy NGC 6872 combines seen mild photographs from the European Southern Observatory’s Very Giant Telescope with far-ultraviolet knowledge from NASA’s Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) and infrared knowledge acquired by NASA’s Spitzer Area Telescope.
